Time to Eat!
The following restaurant was converted from an original car dealership which had the traditional scalloped roof design. It was a great renovation of keeping the old and restyling the architecture into something new. That is going on in a LOT of old buildings throughout Recife, and I believe it serves the city well.
~ Having a List of Good Eats ~
In his 4th year at Recife, our son is the longest teaching American faculty at this time, and he continues to document and keep records of all places of interest - to visit - to see & learn about - to eat at - where to buy groceries (including a Sam's Club), and the list goes on, so when new faculty get to Recife, he offers them an intro list which he never had when he arrived. Also, during these years, he has had an alignment with a Brazilian family which has greatly increased 1) his Portuguese (with a 1st year of language classes included in the teaching contract), 2) their English, 3) his travels & knowledge of areas within the 4.5 million city population he otherwise might never have known about. He definitely has that spirit of interest and curiosity.
Therefore, for our month with him, we probably made 3 dinners in the apartment, as he wanted us to try all of the various & different dishes he discovered and knew we'd like (which was correct!). Many were familiar foods, but prepared in ways we've never had before . . . especially the shrimp or chicken in a variety of cheese sauces (wish I had the ingredients and recipes). So here's a parade of dishes I can now only dream about :).

The Steak Buffet w/Friends
Another very tasty evening experience!
To the right, 1 1/2 bananas sliced lengthwise, covered with a thick sweet creamy cheese, coated with the thickest cinnamon-sugar ever, & topped w/a scoop of vanilla ice cream. Was enough for the 3 of us & all for $37.40 w/sodas & tip.
The restaurant, itself, was quite a showcase with its displays, in-house bakery, and gelato bar.
basics w/a twist of flavors
There are food courts in the malls. Here & there in an airport, or a city that has a heavy tourist area, there might be an American chain restaurant. Overall, we saw a Pizza Hut, Popeyes, KFC, McDonalds, Subway, Dunkin Donuts; the Outback Steak House, Dominoes, & Taco Bell in Rio de Janeiro; & such. And all the "fast food" ones have delivery if you know how to order & pay online. Very convenient at times!
Repurposing Old Colonial Mansions
Strolling through bakeries, a grocery store, a mall . . .
Famous in the area: Bolo de Rolo - up to 16-18 layers rolled, filled w/guava - above & the squares on the left; below, chocolate w/guava: dry & snapped when bought, but softened over time.
